Hello and Welcome! I’m Louisa.

Pilates & Wellness Specialist. Mama. Wife. Fussy Vegetarian. 80s music lover. Hippy at heart.

As a Pilates Specialist with a varied background in Sports Massage Therapy, Human Resources, Publishing and Retail, I’ve had the honour of helping hundreds of people like you since 2009 learn to move and feel better, working with me in person or online. Empowering them to rediscover the power of their mind and body connection and providing the tools to tune inwards to and address their needs.

You’re here to discover how to move and feel better!

I’m here to help you get back into regular self care and will meet you where you’re at right now, giving you the means to build a solid foundation for your continued Pilates practice.

You wake up and something hurts, making you feel stiff and sluggish to drag yourself through another day full of chores and caring for others. You want to move and feel better to enable you to face the day with more ease, energy and joy.

It’s time to invest in a little something for yourself. YOU are capable. YOU are good enough. YOU don’t have to look the part - whatever that is anyway! I believe in YOU and your potential to make a positive change to your life.

My Story

I was never really that sporty at school, I loved music (band nerd!) and enjoyed studying, especially English so that’s what I headed to do at University. After Uni my English specialism led me to Publishing work but my heart wasn’t really in it or the London commuting at the time but I began to consider doing a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) to teach at Senior School level. Before I was due to get started I did some temping work and discovered HR (Human Resources) as a people focussed form of Corporate work and was keen to learn more.

I worked and studied in HR for a number of years but sedentary work over a laptop, excessive travelling and difficult and often negative conversations and changes I had to implement began to take their toll on me physically and mentally. I realised I needed to make a change and bring some balance and positivity into my life and I’m forever grateful to have discovered Pilates! Corporate life had caused me many literal and metaphorical headaches, shoulder and neck pain. I sought help from various practitioners which may have brought a quick fix of short-term relief but I began to realise unless I changed my ways and movement habits longer term nothing could change significantly. Pilates helped to ease aches and pains and provided a welcome relief from everyday stress. It made me feel so much better physically and mentally and I wanted to learn more and be able to help others benefit too. I began my teacher training with Body Control Pilates in 2008 alongside my HR career and once qualified in 2009 I continued to attempt to balance my HR and Pilates work. But once I had my beautiful boy in 2011 it became even harder to juggle everything, I felt that I wasn’t making a good job of any of it and was becoming overwhelmed and exhausted.

In 2016 I was able to break free from corporate life to fully focus on being a Mum and to build up my Pilates business around family life. Initially I was worried that I might not have enough Pilates work so studied and qualified in Sports Massage Therapy but rarely use this now as Pilates is definitely my main passion but my Sports Massage background has certainly influenced my Pilates teaching too.

My Pilates practice has been a constant anchor in my life, through pregnancy, labour and beyond. It’s helped me to cope with and recover from an awful (non fault!) road traffic accident in 2013 where my distal radius was shattered and required surgical fixation and a lengthy amount of rehab. It helps me release stress, find calm and be resilient. I’d love to help Pilates become your anchor too.

Michelle Rollings

Delighted to welcome Michelle to the Equipment Studio Teaching Team from September 2022

Michelle worked professionally as a dancer and aerialist throughout Europe and Asia for many years before becoming a Certified STOTT Pilates Instructor, as well as a Level 5 Soft Tissue and Sports Massage Therapist.

Michelle’s classes focus on incorporating both mobility and stability in a full body workout. Whether working dynamically in advanced classes, or at a slower pace for beginners, Michelle always tries to bring an element of restoration to her classes, with a big focus on breath to aid that mind/body connection.

Movement has always been a priority of Michelle’s, having over 15 years performing and teaching experience in the world of dance. Having suffered from injuries and needing regular treatment herself during her time as a performer, Michelle saw first hand the amazing benefits of Pilates.

Then in 2017, Michelle undertook the rigorous training from the world recognised STOTT Pilates. This has not only further expanded her knowledge of biomechanics, but has inspired her own movement journey. She feels stronger, healthier and more in tune with her body than ever before and has a true appreciation of Pilates.

Michelle is incredibly passionate about her work and strives to continue to grow as an instructor, believing you can never stop learning. Being able to help people to live an active life without discomfort is why she works in this field.

About Pilates

Pilates targets the deep postural muscles, building strength from the inside out, rebalancing the body and bringing it into correct alignment. It helps to reshape the body, which can over time become longer, leaner and more toned.

It can also improve posture, achieving the perfect balance between strength and flexibility, and it is a great way to relieve unwanted stress and tension. Body Control Pilates is based on the work of Joseph Pilates, who created a series of exercises that built strength without adding bulk and balanced that strength with flexibility.

I break down Joseph Pilates's "classical" exercises so that you can enjoy the benefits of Pilates whilst working safely and effectively as they move towards the more advanced exercises. In this way I am able to work with first time exercisers or those needing rehabilitation after an injury or operation, as well as challenge the skills and stamina of elite athletes. Whether working on a one-to-one basis or in a group matwork class, Pilates can help you to achieve your goals.

Body Control Pilates continues to enjoy an excellent reputation for the effectiveness and quality of its teaching. Key reasons for this are:

Progressive approach - good movement skills are taught step-by-step, which ultimately provides the strength and flexibility required to perform the more advanced classical Pilates exercises.

Quality of teaching - teachers are trained on how to teach the exercise as well as how to adapt them to suit the needs of each client.

Client assessment - before a client's first session they are required to complete an enrolment form, where they can provide details of any injuries or conditions so the teacher can ensure that they can exercise safely.

Class size - a maximum group class size of 12, ensuring close supervision and support from the teacher.
